Why Do You Want to Become a CPA? – Answer This Question Yourself First

When you want to reach some place unknown, you normally ask for directions and what’s out there.  When you want to climb the highest hill, you ask for help on how to get there and also what to expect when you are on top.  When you decided to become a CPA, you come here to get more info but do you know why you want it in the first place?

Why do you want to become a CPA?

This is one of the burning questions I have when I am still a CPA reviewee.  For me, I want it because I wanted to change my future.  A future that I know will be the same as my parents and grandparents if I would not do something drastic.  A future that I would not want my kids to experience if I just stayed the same.  I wanted to be professionally and financially successful and becoming a CPA is just a step towards it.  A future more secure than I have back then.

I remember talking to my other classmates about this question.  Each has his/her own reason to tell.  And none of them surprises me except one that meekly said, “I wanted to become a CPA just for fun.”.

Can you relate with these answers?

“I wanted to become a CPA because the title confirmed that I am able and skilled in the field of Finance and Accounting.”

“Being a CPA gets me the promotion I need for my career advancement.”

“If I become a CPA, I can easily apply with big companies and make big bucks.”

“It’s a social status that my parents want for me.”

“When I pass the CPA exams, I will earn more more money for my family.”

“I am proud to have the C.P.A. suffix after my name.  It is very important for me as a professional.”

“Only CPAs get higher salaries.  All others don’t get that much.”

“I can finally  sign documents and make more money by charging PF each time.”

“I owe it to my parents to become a CPA so I have to become one.”

“My uncle/aunt/mom/dad is a CPA and I would like to be like him/her.”

Whether you wanted to make more money or earn respect and prestige or maybe just wanted to please someone, that reason to become a CPA should be strong enough to drive you wild with a burning desire so intense that you would not want to do the CPA exam all over again.  That same reason should give you the push to study hard, the will the keep on and the passion to endure whatever it takes to win it and beat the CPA exams.

When you have the answer in your heart, you already won half the battle.

Keep Dreaming… Believing… Practicing… and Pass the CPA Exams…
